Flexible Additional Income Stream for Mental Health Professionals: ESA Letter Authorization
Quick overview: what we offer to clients
- The K9 Training Institute helps qualified clients obtain PSD and ESA letters so that they can keep emotional support pets even if their landlord has a “no pets” policy
- Fly with their pets at no extra cost (subject to airline rules)
Why should you work with us?
Millions of dog owners have gone through our online training workshops and programs, all based on methods used by service dog trainers.
Many of these clients are looking for a simple, red-tape free way to obtain an ESA or PSD recommendation letter if they qualify.
Instead of finding clients yourself, we’ll connect you directly with individuals in need of your professional evaluation services. No advertising or marketing required on your part.
When you work with us, we handle the client screening and provide you with all the necessary information to assess their eligibility quickly. It’s a great opportunity to leverage our massive client base while focusing solely on what you do best – the evaluation process itself.
What’s the benefit of working with us?
- We send work your way – you don’t need to look for clients or advertise your services.
- Only 10 minutes per client – our streamlined questionnaire and screening process means you get all the information you need about each client before the call itself, allowing you to do the evaluation quickly and move on.
- Schedule flexibility – sync your calendar, and set the dates and times you’re available for quick 10-minute calls with clients.
- No obligation – you have full control of your availability. You can turn your availability on and off any time (except for calls already scheduled).
- 100% online / remote – work from anywhere as long as you have an Internet connection.
- $10 per evaluation – we pay you once a month (within the first 10 days of the month) for all the evaluations you’ve done the previous month @ $10 per evaluation.
What’s expected of you?
- You have to be a licensed mental health professional (LMHP) – i.e. a licensed and registered psychiatrist, psychologist, licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), licensed professional counselor (LPC), or licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT)
- Go over our client screening process once to get familiar with it.
- Get on a 10 minute call with pre-screened clients we send your way – our clients will schedule an online video conference meeting with you based on your availability, which you can set in our system.
- If they qualify, send them an ESA or PSD recommendation letter (we will provide you with templates that you can customize, or you can use your own).
What happens during the 10 minute calls with clients?
You simply need to verify the information that the client has already provided in the pre-screening questionnaire. Once you sign up, we will walk you through a suggested format for the call.
Once the call is over, if the client qualifies for an ESA or PSD recommendation letter, you’ll need to sign and send the letter to them.

“How much time will this require?“
Each evaluation call with a client will last for around 10 minutes. Before each call, you will receive an in-depth pre-screening questionnaire regarding the client’s emotional state, which you will only need to verify during the call.
“How many referrals can you expect per month?”
It actually depends on you 🙂 We have a huge and constantly increasing client base, and you decide when and how many calls you want to handle.
Our Process
About The K9 Training Institute
The K9 Training Institute is a world-renowned organization that has helped millions of people worldwide strengthen their bond with their dogs using a training method based on how service dogs are trained.
Our training programs are led by Dr. Alexa Diaz, Ph.D., one of the most respected service dog trainers in the United States, and Eric Presnall, former host of the Animal Planet TV show “Who Let the Dogs Out”.
Our mission is to make the world a better place by reducing the number of dogs that are given up to shelters and then put down every year. That’s why we also donate a % of our earnings from this site to rescue shelters, animal welfare organizations like ASPCA and American Humane, and other charities.
